about
This is about floating out of denial and into whatever comes next. I wrote it, then played it with the band out at shows for a while before recording it, then recorded it during the lockdown by myself. Recording it actually changed the song a lot - didn't feel right when I initially just recorded the parts we'd been playing live. But when I started peeling things off, scraping stuff away, then layering in some other instruments we'd never used at live shows (acoustic guitar, Wurlitzer, tambourines), then it started to feel right, like how it was supposed to sound, how the feeling felt when I first wrote it.
lyrics
someone’s telling a lie
with a twinkle in their eye
someone’s trying to hide the pain away
someone’s caught in the gloom
of a dark and empty room
someone’s seen a ghost that’s here to stay
but apples to apples, dust to dust
something’s going on with us
I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon
coming up for a spell
I know it all too well
there’s nothing left to tell or give away
coming up for a song
but the words come out all wrong
and the melody reminds me of the day that we said
"apples to apples, dust to dust,
something’s going on with us,
I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon."
but apples to apples, dust to dust
something’s going wrong with us
I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon
yeah apples to apples, dust to dust
even shiny buildings rust
I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon
